Fics to life: Not Your Average Fairy Tale

Summary: Derek needs to start carding the people he flirts with.

“Let’s step into my office, Derek,” the Sheriff says.

Derek feels like a kid being sent to the principal’s office. Except this visit might end with Derek buried in the woods.

“I see you’ve met my son, Stiles,” the Sheriff says. Derek almost squirms at his pointed emphasis on the word ‘son’.

“Yes, sir. I have,” Derek says. He feels like every word out of his mouth is just incriminating him further.

“How old do you think my son is?” the Sheriff says.

“A lot younger that I originally thought,” Derek says.

The corner of the Sheriff’s mouth quirks up for a moment. “Caught that, did you?”

“I thought he was the receptionist,” Derek says helplessly. “I assumed he was around twenty.”

“And if you had known he was sixteen?” the Sheriff says.

Sixteen? Jesus fuck.

“Never would have even thought about it,” Derek says.

The Sheriff must believe him, because he nods and continues on to outline Derek’s duties without another word on the subject.

Derek’s never been so relieved to fill out paperwork in his entire life.

so I noticed few people wondering about Harvey and Mike's relationship, how it got there, and what it's gonna be like in Season 3. Or in other words; Look, I made a thing

The thing with Harvey and Mike is, with this huge secret between them, TRUST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THEY HAVE WITH EACH OTHER. With that trust, as we see from S1-S3, it makes them the most efficient and ruthless senior partner/associate duo of the firm. Their relationship was built on trust and staying by each other’s side, and it eventually evolved into a friendship outside the firm. And we see this through moments like Harvey telling Mike about his parents’ relationship during Mike’s grieving over the loss of his grandmother.

This coming from Harvey who jokingly told Hardman that he was emotionally unavailable.

But with Mike not following through with Harvey’s orders and weilding to Jessica’s command, which was accompanied by the most blood curdling threat, by the end of War(S2E16), that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

Although trust is the strongest point in their relationship, it sometimes effortlessly proves that it is also the weakest point. Little cracks in their relationship started early in Season 1, and more evidently in Season 2. But none of those compared to this one. They were losing clients, senior associates, and the firm was facing the biggest risk it has ever encountered. Everything was on the line.

Harvey, with his ego and slight impatience, wanted his name on the door and ruthlessly attacked anyone who comes in between him and that ambition. Allison Holt, Travis Tanner, Daniel Hardman, Dana Scott, and (almost) Louis Litt. All were casualties that Harvey saw necessary to save him and his firm. Mike unquestionably follows him because he trusts Harvey implicitly. But he notices Harvey crossing lines that he would never have dared when they first met. That was what prompted Mike to doubt him. That’s what made him comply with Jessica. That’s what destroyed their relationship.

Mike doing what he feels is right and saving them their jobs. He tries his best to explain this to him, but Harvey, with his rage and hurt ego, turns away Mike. He even fires him during a very heated discussion, but Jessica quickly intervenes and reinstates his position. But as far as we see and know, that was the end of Mike and Harvey’s relationship.

In that moment… in that very moment, I knew Jessica was right. That as much as she wanted to have his name next to his and represent the firm, Harvey was not ready. His confidence and arrogance, along with his ardent desire to be managing partner, is clouding his judgment. He need something to ground him. Put his feet back on the ground. He needed to experience defeat in the most humbling way possible. And losing this fight, and to Jessica, no less, did exactly that. We saw that in the way Harvey was wandering around the firm looking lost and solemn. That scene moved me to tears because that was the first time, and would probably be the only time we see him that way. Senior Partner to the best law firm and best closer in New York City, looking so lost and alone in what he considers his home. Looking so unwelcome to the place where he feels confident and powerful. He’s estranged from Mike, Jessica, and Dana. And if he loses Donna, then he would be truly alone.

What’s could happen in Season 3 with regard to these two? A LOT OF GROVELING(but not actually) ON MIKE’S PART. He’ll own up to his actions but will stand by his decision of siding with Jessica. He believes that what he did was the right thing to save both their jobs… but to explain that to Harvey and getting him to listen, that’s entirely another story. Both can be so stubborn.

Also, I’d tell you not to expect this issue be resolved in the first few episodes. We are on uncharted territory here. We’re about to witness them work completely separate from each other. No connections, and no interactions. I’m pretty ecstatic to see how the writers explore and delve into this new (almost non existent) dynamic between the two.

But that’s not to say I want them to stay apart forever
